Much of the retreat involves quiet reflection and meditation, where the nuns can reflect on their spiritual journey and listen for God’s guidance. Daily Mass is often celebrated, and the Sacrament of Reconciliation (Confession) may be available to help the nuns seek forgiveness and healing.
Experienced spiritual directors or retreat leaders provide talks on themes of faith, Scripture, prayer, and religious life to inspire and guide the participants. Time is given for personal prayer, journaling, and reflecting on one’s spiritual life and the religious vows they’ve taken. This helps the nuns assess their commitment, discern their calling, and grow in holiness.
While retreats are often periods of silence, there may also be opportunities for communal prayer, meals, and conversations about the spiritual experiences and growth that the nuns are encountering.
The retreat also provides a break from the regular routine of work, ministry, and community responsibilities. This allows the nuns to rest physically, mentally, and emotionally, restoring their strength for their ongoing mission.
