Fr Armond Madhavath Capuchin (1957 - 2001)
Br. Armond born on 25 November 1930, at Palackattumala in Kottayam district, made his profession in the Order on 13 May 1957, and was ordained a priest on 25 March 1960 Br. Armond started his ministry in Nazareth Ashram, Aluva and continued it in Loreto Muvattupuzha, Assisi Ashram Bharananganam and Vimalagiri Ashram, Irritty. It is Br. Armond who started the Charismatic Retreat in Malayalam at Bharananganam with official ecclesiastical approval. Here he laboured hard to develop the retreat centre. He was also the director of Franciscan Third Order and the director of Assisi Sneha Bhavan. He was also the Rector of the Seraphic Seminary at Bharananganam. Later he sought per- mission to go to Iritty to continue the ministry of charismatic retreat. Br. Armond was known for his simplicity, humility and prayerfulness. Because of his deep spirituality, he could calmly face oppositions and hurdles with confidence in God's power. He lived a life fully resigned to God. In this respect, his life at Aluva, Muvattupuzha, Bharananganam, and Iritty provides a shining example for us. Br. Armond's end came with lung cancer and he passed away surrounded by a charismatic core group that was praying around him on 12 January 2001; and his mortal remains were laid to rest at Vimalagiri Ashram, Iritty.
Fr. Gratian Pallipurath Capuchin (1926 - 2014)
Born on 14 December 1926 in the family of Pallipurath, Meenkulam in the Archdio cese of Changnacherry, Br. Gratian joined the Capuchins. He made his simple profession on 23 July 1944 at Monte Mariano, at Faringipet and solemn profession on 07 December 1948 at Amalashram, Trichy. He was ordained priest on 17 December 1950 in the Cathedral Church of Coimbatore. Br. Gratian put his heart and soul in the then Capuchin apostolate of parish mission retreats. With Br. Leo, he worked in the Apostolate of the Franciscan Third Order, Sathyaradhana, a pious movement of the youth, and the apostolate of the press. Hearing about Fr. Lombardy's "Better World Movement" he went to Rome to attend its course. Moved with new enthusiasm he returned to India and conducted the "Better World Movement" Seminars in the main cities of India. He kept the capuchin tradition in his simple dress and use of the minimum things needful. The end of the gracious Capuchin life of Br. Gratian was something beautiful! On 12 August 2014, he got up early in the morning, as usual, prepared the altar for the Holy Mass, and then felt chest pain, went to bed, and breathed his last The obituary published in the newspaper brought many to participate in the funeral ceremonies conducted on the next day and his mortal remains were laid to rest in the vault of Assisi Ashram Cemetery.
